Day 233: The new Pioneer CDJ/CDJ 1000 Successor

So twitter isn't just for vein office folk, or 'meet me tonight ' spam bots. Some people actually use it for the reason it was intended.

That reason being sharing porn, g'ah sorry I mean raving to the same vibe.

Anyway, here is a teaser video from Pioneer about.... well who knows what is it about? But the good money is on something interesting...

To back up that bold and exclusive claim, here is the "proof" from JZab... him self.

Day 232: The DJ mouse. Yes, a mouse for DJing

Well now I have seen it all.

This curious little gadget is both clever, and, a little bit bonkers at the same time. In short, it's fully functioning mouse for your PC or Mac, but it also can be used to control DJ software, and in fact comes bundled with Deckadance.

I found the below video which shows someone giving it a run through. It doesn't look too bad considering, though not sure how cool you would look rolling up to a club with just a laptop and this.

The price point is about $80 I think, which for a mouse is pretty steep, but if it comes bundled with a full version of Deckadance (which itself is $99) then it's not that bad a deal. Maybe a good stocking filler for the DJ that has (almost) everything?

Thanks to VJ Loops for the tip off.

Day 231: How to strip the vocals from an mp3

This is something that I have often thought about, and seemingly it's not as difficult as I thought. The following tutorial shows a way of doing it using Audacity. What's more is that it's basically just two steps!

What would be much much better was if you could do it the other way, strip the track just to leave the acapella. To date I've only seen that done with bleeding edge high end audio software, let me know if you know otherwise though.

Day 230: Setting up Traktor pro.

I have been meaning to post about DVS's and DJing software for some time. Whilst I am not going to go into detail about it today, I thought I'd introduce the subject gently with this tutorial video about setting up Traktor with a midi controller.

Just thinking about wiring these things up gets my brain in all sorts of muddles. There are various configurations, some having audio through and some just using the laptop and a sound card. And everything else in between.

This however is a good starting point. That and this guy has an awesome moustache.

Day 229: The best DJ tables eVR!

These are just awesome. When I get rich, I am going to have a set of these in every room, wired up to some mental sound system that can melt your brain with science.

I don't even need to tell you how cool they are, just look at them.

People will come to your house offering gifts just to stand behind them! A bargain at just under $4000.

Day 228: Creating a Justice style distorted bassline.

You know the one... the one that growls at you all the way through the brilliant Phantom Part II, well here is a tutorial on how to recreate is using Reason.

I don't use Reason, however I followed the tutorial using NI's Massive in Ableton, and it comes out fairly well too.

Nice.

Day 227: Concert hands!

Ok, I promised some field reports, but it's not going to happen. Not today anyways. Instead I bring you this delightful invention 'Concert Hands'.

Basically it's a piece of equipment that is meant to teach you how to play the piano. How it does this though is simply brilliant.

Basically you strap your hands into some sinister looking cuffs. Pop your fingers into some proprietary connectors and let the fun begin.

That's not a smile, that's blind fear.

The system automatically slides your hands up and down the keyboard to the right place, and then sends a pulse to the finger/s that should play each not. Yes really.

It sounds more like having some ghost control your hands in some weird musical possession.

Would love to have a go though!
