Day 171: Bangers for my Bangers...

As is tradition here at BTDJ towers, I start one tune, tease you with it, then go and develop a whole different one out of the blue. Well today is no exception.

I started a walk through of one of my tunes last week... yet banged this tune out almost entirely in one (albeit long) session.

This isn't the style of music that I am so much into these days, but a part of me will forever love the Harder style. Back in the Raving days after 'the great split' I wanted to carry on liking hardcore, but as we all know it started getting happy... too happy really, so naturally I was drawn to the harder elements of Gabber.

I spent many a happy hour upstairs in the Sanctuary, V7 Saxton street, bletchly Milton Keynes (how's that for a memory) pounding it out in the Techno Drome. Sadly that place is now a fucking Ikea.

Anyway, it's a tribute of sorts to that, so here ya go:

Day 99: Hello!

As we reach the turn of the century ( in blog post terms that is) it's starting to dawn on me the magnitude of everything I've taken on.

The deeper I delve in to the 'scene' the more brilliant talent, resources, and music I discover. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. It's good because there is plenty of inspiration, plenty of free/cheap etc resources for learning and making music, however on the flip side, competition for recognition is fierce, and the bar is set incredibly high.

Of course really, all of this is a good thing. No one wants to win by beating easy competition.

This week I have been listening to some really great mixes, a bit grizzlier than some of the more ravey stuff I've been on to, and I like that. Makes it less hands in the air, but a bit more feet on the floor too.

I've been working on a new remix too, this time for a competition from Nightshifters. I thought I'd have ago, even if it's just another track to stick on my myspace etc. I still need to do some finishing detail, but can check out the dark nasty beast right here:

Day 87: Track update.

Righty, been stone cold sober this weekend, and boy does it make a difference to productivity.

Remember I had started working on some tunes? Well remarkably I've almost finished two of them! I know, I can't believe it either. To be fair, I will probably look back on these in a year and cringe at their lameness. But for now, as a novice, I am satisfied with my skills.

I say nearly finished. The thing is you could chip away at these things for hours, and never feel like it was finished. Maybe that's the sign of a true artist, never being satisfied :P

In musical terms they are quite brash... which fits roughly with the music I like to play, but I do hope that over time I can add a slightly deeper, more sophisticated edge, anyways, nuff chat, spose I should show the goods. The first two are the sorta finished one, followed by the first clips of them I posted, to sort of show a before and after thingumy.

Let me know what you think...
